Each phase of the defence process will involve a discussion of the flat fee amounts. Because every case is different, the fees will be tailored based on the specific charge, the complexity of the case, and the estimated time and work required. During your consultation with Ryan Patmore, the flat fee quote will be provided based on his professional assessment of your case. The final fee may fluctuate depending on the unique details of the charge, but Ryan will ensure you understand the costs involved before any work begins.

Our flat fee structure is designed to cover specific stages of your legal proceedings, providing you with the confidence that your case is being handled efficiently and without hidden costs.

Initial Flat Fee

The initial retainer fee covers all foundational work, including:

  • Legal research and case assessment

  • Initial Administrative Court Appearances

  • Early negotiations with the Crown prosecutor

  • Preliminary preparation of case materials

Additional Fees for Further Proceedings

If your case progresses, additional fees will be applied based on the strategy and level of legal work required on a FLAT FEE Basis:

  • Plea Agreement Negotiation and Preparation

  • Trial Preparation and Representation (Summary Conviction)

  • Trials & Resolutions

Flat fees give you the assurance of knowing exactly what will be expected from you and I, and we will always work with you to arrange a workable payment schedule and structure in light of every other expensive facet of your life, to make this a manageable endeavour.

The fees will be dependant on whether your matter is resolved early or goes the distance to evidentiary hearings. Each stage comprises a separate cost, commensurate with the level of work and research required to navigate towards the necessary outcome. While this cannot always be determined from the outset, we can guarantee you that once a fulsome review of your file has been conducted, we will work with you to come to the most cost-effective arrangement to defend you at this pivotal time in your life.

Refund Policy

Once legal work has commenced, all fees paid (including the initial flat fee and additional fees) are non-refundable. However, should the case be resolved earlier than expected, we may reduce or waive further fees at our discretion.

*We accept a variety of payment methods. Please note that payments made by credit card are subject to a 2.9% service charge.

  • Initial Payment: The initial flat fee is due upon signing the retainer agreement.

  • Further Payments: Additional fees for plea agreements, trials, or sentencing will be invoiced as they arise and must be paid within [7/14] days of the invoice.

  • Payment in Full: All fees must be paid in full before any related legal work is conducted.

  • Payment Plans: We understand that legal expenses can be a significant concern. If needed, flexible payment arrangements can be discussed with Ryan Patmore during your initial consultation to help manage your financial needs.

Client Responsibilities

What We Need From You

  • Provide complete and accurate information regarding your case.

  • Cooperate fully with your lawyer, including responding to communications and providing necessary documentation.

  • Make payments promptly according to the terms of this agreement.

Communication Process

Throughout your case, we will ensure that you are regularly updated on progress. If anything significant arises that affects the scope of work or your fees, we will communicate clearly about the changes. We encourage you to reach out at any point for questions or updates—open communication is essential, and we are here to guide you through each step.

Termination of Agreement

  • By You (Client): You may terminate the agreement at any time with written notice. Any fees earned for services already performed are non-refundable, and any unpaid amounts will remain due.

  • By Us (Lawyer): We reserve the right to withdraw from representation if you fail to fulfill your obligations, including non-payment of fees or a breakdown in the lawyer-client relationship.

Flexibility in Fees

While we provide an upfront flat fee structure, we understand that cases can evolve. Should there be significant developments that require additional time or resources, we will discuss and agree upon any necessary adjustments before proceeding further. You will always be informed of any changes to the fee structure, ensuring there are no surprises.

Confidentiality

All communications between the Client and the Lawyer will be kept confidential per Canadian law and the Lawyer’s ethical obligations.

While we will provide diligent and competent legal representation, we cannot guarantee any specific outcome for the case. The outcome of any legal matter depends on various factors beyond our control. That being said, we will fight tirelessly on your behalf, presenting the best possible defence.
